Volunteers play an important role at Perea and their presence enhances our program, as well as helps us to achieve our mission of fostering self-confidence, creativity and good social skills.

Volunteer opportunities at Perea include:

Classroom Volunteers participate in classroom activities such as singing songs reading books and doing art and projects. This is a great opportunity (whether during the day or in our after-school program) for volunteers who want to work with a group of children, rather than an individual child.

Coordinating Special Programs in the classroom such as music, dance/movement, visual arts, theatre, sporting events, cheerleading, cooking, story telling and others.

Perea Pals befriends/mentors a child and spends one-on-one time exploring the child's creativity and the world together. Mentors spend an hour a week with an individual child, focusing on the child's interests and doing creative fun activities such as taking nature walks, painting pictures, listening to music and reading books. This program helps develop the social skills and self-esteem of our most needy students.

Garden Helpers have the opportunity to explore the outdoors with the children while planting, watering and harvesting a variety of flowers and edible plants. Work with the classes during outdoor learning or with the staff to help maintain the garden.

Special Events volunteers help plan and assist with the Fall Festival, annual Christmas dinner, graduation, coordinating coat drives or similar programs and other special events throughout the school year. This is a great opportunity for those who cannot make a weekly volunteer commitment.

We have had volunteers from Rhodes College, University of Memphis, Baptist College of Health Science, area churches, area businesses, The Reading Bridge and many more.

Please consider sharing your time and talents with us. Together, we can make Perea's mission a reality, touching the life of not only each individual child, but his/her entire family.

To volunteer, please contact Dewey Allan at 901.527.8344 or alland@churchhealthcenter.org.
